Description

This French weapon was developed by the French weapon factory Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Tulle (MAT), for use by the French army and was first produced in 1949.
The design featured a short, retractable wire stock, which, when extended, gave the weapon a length of 720 mm (28 inches). The most innovative feature, however, was the magazine well, which could be folded forward parallel to the barrel for parachuting, or other transport, making it compact.

The barrel length is 230 mm. The assembly, with retracted metal wire stock that, in addition to the fully retracted position, can be fixed in two ways, is 47 cm .
This weapon is made for the calibre 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge, using a single-stag magazine with 20 cartridges.

This is the first time we can offer a MAT-49 display rifle, and it is a fantastic specimen! This is rare, as French governments do not sell their guns, but destroy them.

The markings on the top are clearly legible, indicating that this specimen is an original gun manufactured at Tulle Arsenal.

The shoulder stock can still be changed correctly between the long and short positions, and can also be closed at the rear for maximum space saving. Most importantly, the magazine well can still be rotated into the safety position when the release pawl at the rear of the magazine well is pressed. The magazine well is not removable.
The MAT-49 was widely used during the First Indochina War and the Algerian War, as well as the Suez Crisis of 1956.

The weapon caught the eye of airborne and mechanised troops, who appreciated it for its simplicity, robustness, firepower and compactness.
After French forces left Indochina, the People's Army of Vietnam and Viet Minh converted many captured MAT-49s to the Soviet 7.62 mm Tokarev pistol cartridge, which was then widely available in the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. These converted versions could be distinguished by a longer barrel and a higher rate of fire of 900 shots per minute.
North Vietnam covertly supplied MAT-49s to anti-French occupation groups during the Algerian War after the French left Indochina.

Because it is deactivated according to EU DECO rules, anyone aged 18 or older may own this unique deactivated weapon.

The video shows you more about this special weapon which you rarely come across.
