It is with some pride that we offer a rarely seen weapon which is available to anyone 18 years and older in EU DECO; The Hotschkiss Universal. This is one of the first types. Its features are discussed in the video. A very special and collectible pistol machine gun is the Hotchkiss Universal. A weapon foldable into a compact package designed by American gunsmith Benjamin B. Hotchkiss. The need for compact weapons that could be easily carried by troops getting in and out of vehicles, jumping out of airplanes and fighting at close range was proven during World War II. Although the weapon may look unusual, the Hotchkiss “Type Universel” was an extraordinary attempt to create an extremely compact submachine gun. Machine guns had proven themselves to be a useful weapon during the war, their small size and high rate of fire made them invaluable, especially in short-range situations. The French army after the war was armed with a plethora of surplus submachine guns, including: the German MP40, the British STEN and the American Thompson, as well as their own pre-war MAS-38s, in 7.65x20mm Longue, which had been designed before the war. By 1946, they had already begun selecting a new, more compact submachine gun. To standardize on one weapon and caliber, they selected 9x19mm and launched a program to create a new submachine gun or Pistolet Machine Gun.
