Description
This once real shooting submachine gun is deactivated according to EU DECO rules, allowing anyone aged 18 and above to own it. It has no moving parts. The gun in the picture, is also the one supplied.
Some history: The submachine gun was produced by the arms factory Fábrica de Braço de Prata ( F B P ) in Lisbon, Portugal. The weapon was commissioned in 1948 as the M 948.
It operates with the same telescopic control spring as of a German MP40 submachine gun and has the collapsible wire stock of the American M3 submachine gun.
This original version of the submachine gun, the FBP M948) was only suitable for fully automatic fire. A later, improved version (designated FBP m/963) introduced in 1961 was also suitable for semi-automatic fire.
The weapon was issued mainly to officers and non-commissioned officers in the Portuguese armed forces and security forces, along with quantities of former German MP 34 machine guns. In Portuguese service, it was used in combat in Angola, Portuguese Guinea, Mozambique, Portuguese India and Portuguese Timor. It was eventually replaced by the 9 mm Uzi and the collapsible-bowl version of the standard m/961 G3 rifle.
